Congressman Manish Tewari on Friday asked Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to cancel the state agreement with Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors due to the deaths of 20 personnel Indian army during a violent confrontation with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh.
“Respected chief minister sahib, this agreement should be abandoned as soon as possible. We cannot fill the coffers of those who kill our soldiers, “Tewari, a former Union minister, said in a tweet.
The Congress is a partner of the ruling alliance of Maharashtra which also includes the Shiv Sena and the NCP.
Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Maharashtra on Tuesday while remaining committed to a $ 1 billion phased investment plan for a state-owned factory that will create jobs for 3,000 people .
In the midst of border tension with China, there have been demands in the country to boycott Chinese-made products and to cancel contracts awarded to Chinese companies.
The violent confrontation on Monday evening was the largest military confrontation between the two countries in more than five decades which has considerably aggravated the already unstable border deadlock in the region.
