San Francisco:
On Sunday evening, a person was killed after a man armed with a gun entered a crowd of protesters by George Floyd, in the city of Seattle, in the northwest of the country.
Images broadcast by local TV station Q13Fox showed the man carrying a pistol exiting a car near the east end of the Seattle Police Department as protesters shouted and fled.
The man walks towards the demonstrators before disappearing into the crowd.
Police tweeted that they arrested a suspect and recovered a weapon.
“The police have searched, but do not believe there are more casualties,” the police said on Twitter.
A man in his twenties suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to hospital in stable condition, the fire department tweeted.
Q13Fox said the victim, a protester, was shot in the arm after approaching the shooter while he was still inside the vehicle.
The Seattle rally was part of the national protests sparked by the death of Floyd on May 25, who was killed when a white policeman pressed his knee to the neck of the unarmed black man for almost nine minutes.
Protesters have turned outrage at the latest death in custody of an African American into demands for police reform and social justice.
Seattle police on Saturday used explosive bullets and pepper spray to disperse protesters who they said threw bottles, stones and “incendiary devices” during a rally in the Capitol Hill neighborhood where finds the enclosure.
Several officers were injured, the department said.
