Anand:
A special court in Anand, Gujarat has sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering a three-year-old girl after kidnapping her more than three years ago.
The special court for hearings on the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) adopted the order on Tuesday.
Judge Dilip Hingu sentenced Raju Devipujak (38), who committed the crime on February 14, 2017.
The court said the case fell into the “rarest of few” category.
The court also fined him 5,000 rupees, failing which he will face two years in prison.
The court found him guilty of crimes under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the POCSO Act.
The convict had taken the girl to a tobacco farm and sexually assaulted her before strangling her to death and leaving her body at the site. He also took away the jewelry she was wearing.
