Jodhpur:

A 20-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in Jodhpur for posting a processed photo on social media of him receiving a fake cybersecurity prize from President Ram Nath Kovind who went viral online, police said.

He was brought before a court and was then placed in police custody for two days.

The accused Rahul Rathi (20), a resident of Tiwari under the confines of the Mathania police station in Jodhpur, graduated in information technology engineering and runs a mobile phone agency in the city.

Mathania Police Station SHO Gautam Dotasara said that a Ramesh had complained on Friday that Rathi had posted a photo on his Facebook page and that WhatsApp had received an honor from the president for “exemplary contribution to cybersecurity”, which was wrong.

“In his message, which was uploaded on July 9 to his Facebook and WhatsApp account, Rathi said that the day had brought him extreme pleasure and pride. The honorable President of India honored him for his contribution exemplary in cybersecurity at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, “said Dotasara.

This photo of him receiving the “honor” of the president went viral with several comments, tastes and wishes following the publication.

“Based on the complaint, we filed a complaint against Rathi under the relevant articles of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Law and arrested him on Saturday,” said Dotasara, adding that the The accused had been brought to court, which sent him to two days in police custody.

According to the preliminary investigation, Rathi had found a photo on the official Twitter handle of the president, in which Kovind received a portrait of himself by the new Indian ambassador to Finland Raveesh Kumar, who was until recently the spokesperson of the AEM.

Apparently, Rathi removed the photo of Raveesh Kumar and placed his own photo by transforming the original photo.

He had the morphing done by a service provider in Delhi and paid for the work by e-payment, said the police officer.

The police officer added that Rathi even went to Delhi to make his story realistic and posted the photo on his social media accounts before going home to gain people’s trust.

“We are also trying to contact the service provider, who transformed the original photo of Rathi in Delhi,” said the officer.
