West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday urged rail authorities to run more commuter trains to avoid overcrowding that would put passengers at risk of contracting COVID-19.
Eastern and Southeastern Railroad commuter train services resumed in the state on Wednesday after more than seven months as authorities attempted to enforce Covid safety guidelines even when passengers were overcrowded buses during rush hour.
“We will ask the railways to run more trains so that trains are not overcrowded and that physical distances and other safety standards are met. We also need to make sure people wear masks,” Mamata said. Banerjee at the secretariat.
