Noted Malayalam director and screenwriter KR Sachidanandan, whose last film Ayyappanum Koshiyum released before the COVID-19 epidemic in the country was a resounding success, died in a private hospital in Thrissur, according to film industry sources. He was 48 years old.
The director, popularly known as Sachy, was admitted to the Jubilee Mission hospital on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack and was on respiratory assistance. He died Thursday evening, they said.

In a condolence message, Kerala’s chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, said his death was a loss for the Malayalam film industry. “Sachy was a renowned Malayalam film director and screenwriter. Actor Nivin Pauly tweeted that Sachy’s disappearance was a loss for Malayalam cinema. “Shocked to hear the sudden disappearance of Sachy ettan. Indeed a big loss for Malayalam cinema. May his soul rest in peace,” tweeted Pauly.

Friday afternoon, the cremation of KR Sachidanandan will take place at Ravipuram in Kochi, the sources said.
