Maharashtra reports over 20,000 24-hour COVID-19 cases, 430 deaths

Maharashtra’s COVID-19 tally rose to 13,21,176 on Saturday with a one-day addition of 20,419 cases, the state health department said.

With 430 more patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll in the state rose to 35,191, he said.

A total of 23,644 patients were released after treatment in the state during the day, bringing the number of recoveries to 10,16,450, the department said.

The state now finds itself with 2,69,119 active cases. The city of Mumbai has reported 2,282 new cases, bringing its total number to 1,965,585, while the death toll has risen to 8,750 and 44 others have died from the infection in the city.

Of 430 deaths reported on Saturday, 227 took place in the past 48 hours, while 110 had occurred a week ago.

Another 93 deaths had occurred even earlier than that.

The Mumbai Division, which consists of the city of Mumbai and the satellite towns, reported 4,819 new cases, bringing the total number of infections in the densely populated region to 4,62738.

A total of 15,385 people have died so far in the region, the official said.

The number of cases in Pune Division stood at 3,51,308 and the total number of deaths at 7,606, the official said.

The cumulative number of cases in Nashik Division stood at 1,74,802 and the death toll was 3,563, he said.

Kolhapur Division has reported 89,581 cases and 2,684 deaths so far, while Aurangabad Division’s case count stood at 50,198 and the death toll was 1,290.

The Latur division has so far reported 52,709 cases and 1,427 deaths.

Akola Division has reported 38,835 cases while 839 people have succumbed to the infection so far.

Nagpur Division has recorded 99,509 infections and 2,266 deaths, the official said.

1,496 COVID-19 patients from outside Maharashtra have received treatment in the state, while 131 have died so far, he said.

A total of 19,45,758 people are currently in home quarantine in the state while another 30,571 are placed in institutional quarantine, he added.
