Amid reports of Maharashtra BJP’s plan to launch a campaign to connect with voters in the state via WhatsApp, Home Secretary Anil Deshmukh hoped on Wednesday that it will not turn into a “university WhatsApp”.

“WhatsApp University” is a term that has emerged to refer to the rumor or circulation of fake content on the messaging platform.

The minister instructed the Maharashtra Police Cyber ​​Cell to keep an eye on WhatsApp groups to prevent rumor and the spread of disinformation.

A report in a Marathi daily said the BJP state unit plans to connect 1.5 crore of voters by forming groups on WhatsApp.
