Bombay:

Mumbai Police are investigating the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput “in a very professional manner,” Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Monday.

The minister, however, did not respond to quarantine questions from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Patna City Police Superintendent Vinay Tiwari, who arrived in Mumbai on Sunday to oversee the investigation by Bihar police into the actor’s death.

“The Bombay police are studying the matter in a very professional manner,” Deshmukh told reporters.

Maharashtra’s BJP opposition demanded that the investigation into the case be turned over to the CBI, while the state government rejected the same.

Mr Tiwari arrived in Mumbai on Sunday and was quarantined by BMC authorities for 14 days at the state reserve police guesthouse in the suburb of Goregaon. His hand has also been stamped indicating the quarantine period until August 15.

Bihar Police Director General Gupteshwar Pandey claimed that Mr. Tiwari had been “forcibly quarantined” by civic authorities in Mumbai.

However, the BMC said the decision to quarantine the Bihar police officer was in line with Maharashtra government guidelines, where standards for domestic travelers include the necessary home quarantine, among others.

Mr Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment on the outskirts of Bandra on June 14 and the case is being investigated by Bombay police as well as Bihar police after the deceased actor’s father filed a complaint with Patna.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday and briefed him on the ongoing investigation into the case.

Condemning the demand from certain circles, including the BJP opposition, to hand over the investigation to the CBI,

Mr Deshmukh tweeted on Sunday: “Maharashtra police are professionally investigating the case and are competent to dig out the truth, without neglecting any effort.”

<< Even though the Bihar police recorded an offense in Patna under chap. 12 and 13 of the CrPC, it must be investigated, investigated and tried by the police and the courts in whose jurisdiction the offense was committed. I condemn the demand that the matter be turned over to the CBI, ”Deshmukh said.
