Madhya Pradesh Governor Lal Ji Tandon has died at the age of 85 in a hospital in Lucknow.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Lal Ji Tandon, who has been admitted to a hospital in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh since last month, passed away this morning, his son Ashutosh Tandon said. Lal Ji Tandon, 85, was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on June 11 due to breathing problems and other health concerns.

Lal Ji Tandon was governor of Bihar between August 2018 and July 2019 when he took over as governor of Madhya Pradesh. In 2009, the top BJP leader and a protégé of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee succeeded him as MP for Lucknow.

He started his career in his hometown of Lucknow in the 1970s and was also Minister of State in Uttar Pradesh on several occasions between 1991 and 2003. His son Ashutosh Tandon, who is also Minister of State in the ‘Uttar Pradesh, tweeted this morning in Hindi: “Father is no more”.

Lal Ji Tandon died around 5:35 a.m. in the hospital. The last rites will take place at 5 p.m. this evening in Lucknow. In a medical bulletin, the hospital said this morning, “Shri Lal Ji Tandon was admitted to Medanta on June 11. During the investigations he was diagnosed with chronic liver disease, due to his multiple ailments. was put on a life support system. The team of medical experts made every effort to survive, despite all efforts, he took his last breath today at 5:35 am. “

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences: “Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his tireless efforts in the service of society. In a message, Lal Ji Tandon’s son also called on the population to ensure social distancing while adhering to government guidelines on the coronavirus and to “pay homage from home.”

Last month, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel took charge of Madhya Pradesh after Lal Ji Tandon was admitted to hospital with respiratory and other health concerns.

Anandiben Patel, former chief minister of Gujarat, was appointed governor of Uttar Pradesh last year. She was the governor of Madhya Pradesh before that.

Condolences were poured out on Twitter shortly after his death.

In a series of tweet, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote: “I pray to God that her soul may rest in peace and the family will find courage in this difficult time.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed his condolences on Lal Ji Tandon’s death on Twitter. “Sad to hear of the death of the governor of Madhya Pradesh.
