Dewas (Madhya Pradesh):
A farmer who has been waiting for a turn in a wheat shopping center in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh for two days to sell his crop has died after a heart attack, officials said on Monday.
Officials said the farmer identified as Jairam Mandloi suffered a fatal heart attack while waiting for his turn outside the supply center on Sunday.
“A farmer died here. According to the doctor, a preliminary medical examination suggests that he suffered a heart attack. It is very unfortunate. An investigation is underway,” the magistrate of the subdivision told the press. (SDM) Pradeep Solanki.
Asked about the long wait in shopping centers, Mr. Solanki said that maintaining standards of social distancing amid the coronavirus-induced foreclosure has caused some technical difficulties in the procurement process.
He said that all possible help was given to the man’s family and that arrangements for compensation were made by the district administration.
“This time the wheat for supply is four to five times more than it was last time. Last year about 60,000 metric tonnes of wheat was purchased. However, we have already purchased more than three lakh MT. Resources are limited, social locking and distancing must also be maintained, “said Mr Solanki.
Sachin Mandloi, the farmer’s son, said his father left home on May 29 to sell the crop at the mall and has been waiting at the mall for two days.
“I was informed that my father was sick and was taken to the district hospital. I rushed over and learned that he had died. He left home on May 29 and was waiting at the center to sell the wheat. There is a long queue at the mall, “said Mr. Mandloi.
Another relative of the man said that their crop had not yet been obtained.
