Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, 61, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, it was confirmed on Saturday afternoon. He will be admitted to Chirayu Hospital in Bhopal, the state capital, Interior Minister Narottam Mishra told GalacticGaming.
In a tweet, the Chief Minister wrote, in Hindi: “My dear compatriots, I had symptoms of COVID-19 and, after a test, my report came back positive. I am following all the guidelines and will take action. quarantine according to the doctor’s advice. “.
Mr. Chouhan also called on his colleagues and individuals to take all possible precautions to avoid infection and urged those who came into contact with him to also take their test.
“I call on people in my state to be careful, just a little recklessness invites the coronavirus. I have done my best to avoid the virus but people met me on many subjects”, he said declared.
All close contacts of the Chief Minister, who was scheduled to hold a meeting at 11:30 am, have been quarantined. In his absence, Mr Chouhan wrote, Home Secretary Narottam Mishra, Health Minister Vishvas Sarang and others will lead the meeting.
Mr Mishra, among those who have had close contact with the chief minister, will also be tested for the virus.
News of Mr Chouhan testing positive for the virus comes two days after a cabinet minister, Arvind Singh Bhadoria, confirmed he had been infected. Mr Bhadoria was among ministers who attended Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, chaired by the chief minister.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also reassured his supporters that there was no need to panic and that despite his state of health, he would continue to lead efforts to contain the virus in his state.
“Don’t panic, if the coronavirus is treated on time it is curable,” he said. adding: “I have been reviewing the status of coronavirus infections every night since March 25. I will try to review this via videoconference as much as possible now.”
Former chief minister Uma Bharti said she prayed for the speedy recovery of Mr. Chouhan and Mr. Bhadoria. “I pray that they will recover soon. Everything is fine. May this disease leave our planet,” she said.
Both Mr. Chouhan and Mr. Bhadoria attended the funeral of the late Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon, who died at a hospital in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on July 21.
Madhya Pradesh has so far recorded more than 26,000 cases of COVID-19, including 791 deaths linked to the virus. The number of active cases in the state is over 7,500.
Across India, the number of coronavirus cases has crossed 13.36 lakh, with more than 4.56 lakh active cases and 31,358 deaths linked to the virus.
