Chandigarh:
An assistant sub-inspector was reportedly caught red-handed by accepting a bribe of ₹ 28,000 for recording a complainant’s file, the Punjab Vigilance Office announced today.
Complainant Shamsher Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib district, accused ASI Gurjeet Singh of demanding ₹ 70,000 for registering a complaint against those who beat his daughter, according to an official publication.
The official, stationed at a Ludhiana police station, had reached an agreement for ₹ 58,000. The complainant paid ₹ 30,000 initially, in accordance with the release.
The vigilance team set a trap and the accused official was arrested when he accepted the bribe from the rest of the complainant’s amount in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the relevant article of the law on the prevention of corruption was registered against the official of the police station of the Vigilance Office of Ludhiana.
