Light to moderate rain for the next two days and light rain until Sunday is likely in Delhi: IMD (File)

Large swathes of northern India received light to moderate precipitation on Wednesday, the meteorological department issued a landslide warning for parts of Himachal Pradesh, while Mumbaikars woke up on a sunny morning after almost a week of rain.

In the nation’s capital, sporadic rains and cloudy weather kept mercury in check.

The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative figures for the city, recorded a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said light to moderate rain for the next two days and light rain thereafter until Sunday is likely in Delhi.

Since June 1, when the monsoon season started, the city has measured 70.5 mm of precipitation compared to the normal of 98.5 mm, a deficiency of 28%.

The Shimla Weather Center has issued a landslide warning for parts of Himachal Pradesh following rains in most parts of the state.

There is a possibility of landslides in Shimla, Solan and surrounding areas, said the director of the MeT center, Manmohan Singh.

From 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Solan received maximum state precipitation at 82 mm, followed by 54.3 mm at Jubbar Hatti, 48 mm at Dalhousie and 40.7 mm at Nahan.

Shimla recorded 22 mm of precipitation during this period, Mashobra 16.8 mm, Chamba 16 mm, Mandi 15.1 mm, Kufri 14 mm, Una 10.4, Keylong 10 mm, Bilaspur 8.5 mm, Manali 5 mm, Dharamshala 2.2 mm, Palampur 2 mm and Kangra 1 mm.

The MeT Center has forecasted rains in the state until July 13.

Light to moderate rain also occurred in many places in eastern Uttar Pradesh and in a few places in western state, according to the MeT department.

Heavy to very heavy rains and thunderstorms occurred in remote areas of the state, the weather service said.

He said heavy to very heavy rains in isolated parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and heavy rains in isolated parts of the western part of the state would most likely occur on Thursday.

Rains and thunderstorms are most likely in most places in eastern Uttar Pradesh and in many places in the western part of the state on Friday and Saturday, he added.

In Mumbai, residents woke up to a bright morning as the sun shone on the city sky after almost a week of heavy rain.

Mumbai, neighboring Thane and other districts in the coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra have been hit by heavy rains in the past few days, leading to waterlogging in low areas.

Precipitation intensity in Mumbai and Thane decreased on Tuesday.

The Santacruz Observatory in the suburbs of Mumbai recorded 58.3 mm of rain, while the Colaba weather station in south Mumbai recorded 58 mm of rain during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Wednesday , according to IMD.

The Ratnagiri Observatory recorded 144.1 mm of rain, while the Harnai Weather Office recorded 75.2 mm of rain during the same period.

In Rajasthan, the rains were scattered in several regions, while isolated places received heavy rains, said the MeT department.

At 74mm, the state capital, Jaipur, received maximum precipitation during the 24-hour period until Wednesday morning.

Uchain (Bharatpur), Roopwas (Bharatpur) and Bhinder (Udaipur) recorded respectively 54 mm, 49 mm and 45 mm of rain during this period.

Pilalkhunt (Pratapnagar) and Gogunda (Udaipur) recorded 29 mm of rain each.

Several other places in the state recorded 29 to 15 mm of rain.

According to the meteorologist, light to moderate rain will occur in many parts of the state over the next 48 hours.
