The Union Ministry of Health has removed the license requirement for the storage and sale of hand sanitizer to make it more widely available to the public amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to an official notification, the ministry granted the exemption under the provisions of the Medicines and Cosmetics Rules, but said retailers must ensure that these products are not sold or stored after the expiration date. .
The ministry has received several representations to exempt the hand sanitizer from the requirement of a sales license, the notification said.
The notification, dated July 27, said the central government was confident that the hand sanitizer was essential to meeting emergency needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and that their availability was facilitated in the public interest.
