The body of a five-month-old baby was found in a jungle in the Cachar district of Assam.

The body of a five-month-old baby, who was reportedly taken from the home while his parents slept, was found in a jungle in Assam’s Cachar district, police said on Saturday. The body was unearthed in the jungle in the Rangirghat area on Friday and sent for postmortem to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, they said.
The baby was abducted on the night of August 4 after kidnappers entered the house through a window, police said. The kidnappers demanded Rs 10 lakh as ransom from the family, a source said.
Three people were arrested in connection with the kidnapping and took investigators to the location where the body was found buried, police said.
The motive for the kidnapping and murder has not yet been fully established as an investigation is ongoing, they said.
Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Aminul Hoque Laskar demanded that the perpetrators of the incident be hanged.
Mr Laskar, who is an MP for Sonai where the incident occurred, told the PTI that he had asked the police to take strict action against the accused and ensure that the case was tried by an expedited court.
