Washington:

Two years after Facebook Inc CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s explanation to US lawmakers – “Senator, we’re running ads” – exploded like a meme, online viewers again ridiculed moments of a tech antitrust showdown Wednesday.

CEOs of the nation’s largest tech companies – including Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos of Amazon Inc, Sundar Pichai of Google of Alphabet Inc, and Tim Cook of Apple Inc – gave virtual testimony before the US Judicial Committee’s antitrust panel.

Social media users jumped at the fact that Amazon’s Bezos did not receive any questions for over an hour during his first appearance before Congress.

At one point, the richest man in the world appeared to step off the screen for a snack, much to the internet’s delight. “Someone is calculating how much money he made during this name,” @Bryson_M tweeted.

Others did math on the back of the towel to find an answer. It wasn’t immediately clear if there were any technical issues with Amazon’s feed.

The Wisconsin Republican also grilled the Facebook CEO over Twitter Inc’s decision to temporarily block Donald Trump Jr from tweeting after violating his coronavirus disinformation rules.

“I think what you’re referring to happened on Twitter, so it’s hard for me to talk about it,” Zuckerberg said.

Republican Rep. Greg Steube has also been roasted online for asking the CEO of Google why his campaign emails go to spam folders in Gmail.

MISSING A ROOM

The CEOs initially appeared as thumbnail images on a big screen, frustrating viewers who laughed at the virtual setup on Twitter.

When the CEOs were then shown individually on large screens, the popular @ratemyskyperoom Twitter account gave its scores, claiming that Zuckerberg’s room setup looked like a hostage video. “Stay away from artistic blur.
