Srinagar:
While some people are distributing needed food items to the needy amid the Covid-19 lockdown, Irfana Zargar is distributing free health kits to women and girls in Srinagar and neighboring villages in the Kashmir Valley.
Due to the coronavirus lockdown, women in Kashmir were struggling to get their hands on sanitary napkins due to their free movement and closed markets.
As part of an initiative called the “ Eva Safety Kit ”, Irfana Zargar decided to do something for women and she dedicated the initiative to her late beloved father, Ghulam Hassan Zargar.
She distributed menstrual kits in about 15 toilets around Srinagar, which are available for free.
“I started this concept in the toilet, when it occurred to me I wanted to cover 15 toilets in Srinagar city and later go to villages,” Irfana said.
“If my sisters and brothers are with me, by the grace of God, I will take this initiative forward and I want to take this mission to the villages after the lockdown is lifted, I will start this initiative again in the toilets,” he said. -she adds.
Ms. Irfana invested half of her salary in buying menstrual products and distributed everything to underprivileged girls.
Irfana Zargar’s kit contains all the essentials needed to maintain healthy menstrual practices such as sanitary napkins, antispasmodics and hand washing.
She added that women are the building blocks of society, so it is important to take care of their health if we want our society to progress.
Locals also praise and support the initiative.
Maryam Jain, resident of Srinagar, said: “She is doing a good job because during the lockdown we couldn’t get out, so we used to contact here and she helped us. It is a good deed.”
People like Ms. Zargar help bring about positive change in society and also make people’s lives easier and healthier.
It is estimated that around 120 million menstruating adolescent girls in India suffer from menstrual dysfunctions which affects their normal daily tasks. But only 36% of his 355 million menstruating women use pads.
