American rapper Kanye West burst into tears on Sunday as he chaoticly launched his unlikely campaign to overthrow Donald Trump as president of the November election.
Dressed in a bulletproof jacket marked “safety”, West delivered a rambling speech in which he stated that he wanted his wife, Kim Kardashian, to have an abortion and that the renowned American abolitionist Harriet Tubman ” never actually freed the slaves. “
West told the event in Charleston, South Carolina, how he wanted his wife to have an abortion when she was pregnant with North, their eldest daughter. He then revealed that his father also wanted to have an abortion.
“My father wanted to have an abortion. My mother saved my life. There would have been no Kanye West because my father was too busy,” said West, crying.
He later shouted, “I almost killed my daughter! I almost killed my daughter!”
At another point in his speech, he said: “Harriet Tubman never really freed the slaves, she just made the slaves work for other whites”.
West’s speech, the clips of which went viral on social media, caused confusion, anger, and concern for the musician’s mental health.
The event was reserved for registered guests and all participants were asked to sign a COVID-19 disclaimer form as well as wear masks and practice social distancing, American media reported.
Less than four months before the November election, West, 43, raised his eyebrows on July 4 when he announced on Twitter that he would challenge Trump.
He gave hardly any details about his campaign, but the hip-hop star – who wore a “Make America Great Again” cap to a 2018 Oval Office meeting with Trump – said he no longer supported the President.
Reports began circulating in the U.S. media last week that West had abandoned the race.
He missed the deadline in several states to be registered on the presidential ballot, but he is registered on the ballot in Oklahoma.
