Rapper Kanye West said he no longer supports President Donald Trump and said he entered the presidential race to win him, in an interview published Wednesday.

West, previously a staunch supporter of Trump, announced on Saturday that he would run for president in 2020.

“I’m taking off the red hat with this interview,” West told Forbes, referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” red baseball cap. “Like everything I have done in my life, I do (that) to win,” he added.

He told the magazine that he would run under a new banner – the birthday party. West and his reality star wife Kim Kardashian West visited Trump at the White House.

West denied that his goal was to divide the black vote and harm the chances of Trump’s democratic opponent Joe Biden. It was “a form of racism and white supremacy” to suggest that all blacks should support the Democrats, he said.

The rapper told Forbes that he had been sick with COVID-19 in February and that he would be wary of the vaccines developed to prevent infection. Repeating false theories that link vaccines to childhood developmental disorders, he said, “So when they say the way we’re going to fix COVID is with a vaccine, I’m extremely careful.”

“It is the mark of the beast. They want to put French fries in us, they want to do all kinds of things, so that we cannot go through the gates of heaven,” he added.
