We are in the midst of an economic crisis, given racial injustice in America for a long time: Kamala Harris

Washington:

Democratic vice presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris has said her party’s views on issues such as health and the coronavirus pandemic are shared by a majority of Americans, flaying President Donald Trump for a leadership “total failure” and refusing to condemn white supremacy.

Deviating from President Trump, who described her as a “female socialist,” Ms Harris, 56, said she and former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential candidate, were proud American patriots .

“Joe Biden and I are proud American patriots. And the reality is that the values that we have, I think, are shared by the majority of the American people,” Ms. Harris told reporters in Cleveland, where she was campaigning on Saturday.

She was responding to a question about Trump’s statement a day earlier.

“We are not going to be a socialist nation. We are not going to have a socialist president, especially a female socialist president. We are not going to have her. We are not going to accept it,” Trump said. at a rally in Pensacola, Fla. on Friday.

“When you look at what we all want in terms of knowing that people have access to health care, especially in a pandemic … he’s trying to get rid of the affordable care law, we’re trying to get rid of it. to broaden. values are saying we have to uplift workers, ”said Harris.

“Meanwhile, Donald Trump is measuring the success of the economy by the wealth of people and how the stock market moves,” she said.

Later, speaking to his supporters at Cuyahoga Community College, Harris spoke about the crisis of systemic racism.

“So we are in the midst of a public health crisis, an economic crisis, and a long overdue account of racial injustice in America. And on that issue, let’s be clear, again two choices. very clear, ”she said.

“On the one hand, you have Joe Biden, who has the courage, the commitment and the knowledge of American history to pronounce the term ‘Black Lives Matter’. On the other hand, you have a Donald Trump, who will never speak words, ”she said.

“You have a Donald Trump who stood on this stage of debate and refused to condemn white supremacists and then doubled down and said, ‘Well, take a step back and stay away. And then people say, ‘Well you know you think he’s racist? Harris said.

The audience laughed at the question, prompting Harris to say “Yes”.

“Because you see, we’re not just looking at one-off comments, we’re looking at a model. It’s the same guy who challenged the legitimacy of the first black president of the United States,” she said.

As she wrapped up her hectic campaign day, Harris told reporters that probably one of the biggest and biggest concerns was what was happening in terms of the surge in COVID-19 cases.

“And they want to know that we have a plan. They want to know that there will be some adherence to safe plans regarding not only modeling good behavior, but also what we’re going to do to control the virus. testing, contact tracing, dispensing a vaccine when we have a sure one, and then the economy. I mean one in six small businesses in Ohio has closed, ”he said. she declared.

“These are real problems, big problems and no relief in sight,” added Harris.

So that’s what they want to know that there will be leadership that sees them and understands what they’re struggling with right now, she said, adding that people are struggling with the basics, struggling with the basics. health care, with rent and with food on the table.

“And Joe and I, you know, listen, I mean, we believe there is a solution, but you’ve got to have leadership in place that gets a firm grip on what’s going on, tells the truth to the American people, embraces the science and then implement the plan, ”she said, adding that their plan is for testing and treatment and contact tracing.

“But it’s also about restarting the economy, restarting, but doing it in a safe and smart way instead of denying the existence of this virus and like Donald Trump did … saying that we let’s turn the corner. You look at everything you post and report all – everyone knows we don’t turn around the corner. There is a fight we are facing right now. And we had a failure total leadership on Donald Trump’s part, “Ms. Harris told me.
