2020 US presidential election: Joe Biden, 77, to become longest-serving president-elect in US history

Washington, United States:

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has said he would be honored to serve with Kamala Harris, who scripted history by becoming the first immigrant woman and daughter to be elected to a national office in this country.

“I will be honored to serve with a fantastic Vice President – Kamala Harris – who will make history as the first woman, first black woman, first woman of South Asian descent and first immigrant daughter to be elected to a national function in this country, ”Biden said in his victory speech in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday night.

“It’s long overdue, and tonight we remember all of those who fought so hard for so many years to make this happen. But once again America has bent the arc of the moral universe towards justice, ”he said.

“Kamala, Doug – like it or not – you are family. You have become Honorary Bidens and there is no way out,” he said.

Biden, 77, and Harris, 56, are said to be sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States on January 20, 2021.

Harris, the daughter of an Indian mother and an African American father from Jamaica, thanked Biden for choosing her as his running mate.

“What a testament to Joe’s character he had the audacity to break down one of the most important barriers that exist in our country and to choose a woman as vice president,” she said.

“But even though I might be the first woman in this office, I won’t be the last. Because every little girl who watches tonight sees that this is a land of possibilities,” Harris said.

Biden, she says, is a healer, unifier, and a tried and steadfast hand. “A person whose own experience of loss gives them a sense of purpose that will help us, as a nation, to regain our own sense of purpose. And a man with a big heart who loves with abandon, ”she said.

“We are so grateful to Joe and Jill for welcoming our family to theirs on this incredible journey,” added Harris.

She will be the first Vice President of Indian descent, the very first black, and the very first African American Vice President of the United States.
