The actress, in an interview with the PTI news agency, revealed that in her second run as an actress, she focused more on films that “highlight” social issues on the screen and that’s why she agreed to Ponmagal Vandhal. In the criminal thriller, which focuses on the system’s failure to deal with child abduction and rape cases, Jyothika plays the role of a fiery lawyer named Venba. Speaking of the film, the actress told PTI, “I read articles on crimes against women and children almost every other day in the newspapers. I often discussed them with Suriya (her husband and actor ) at home to find out why the law was taking so long for justice in these cases. “
“So when Fredrick (the director) brought in a screenplay that challenged our legal system in a realistic and presentable way, I was really drawn to this project. Jyothika’s Ponmagal Vandhal is one of the few films that will premiere on Amazon Prime Video instead of theaters due to the coronavirus epidemic. The actress told PTI that the manufacturers had decided to follow the online release, keeping in mind the current scenario and the “film traffic vying for theatrical release”. She said: “It took us a while to figure out what we were doing, but we knew it was a nice platform for content-oriented movies. Since we all know that cinemas won’t open before a few months and there will be film traffic vying for the release, we haven’t even seen a chance to Ponmagal Vandhal go out for at least a year and a half. Given these factors, it was the best decision. “
Jyothika added that smaller content-rich movies like his last have to wait months to find a suitable theatrical release, but with the help of streaming platforms, they can have greater audience exposure. “It’s a matter of pride for Tamil cinema, especially for the little content-rich movies that usually have to wait months or even years to find a theatrical release.
