Democratic candidate Joe Biden on Thursday denounced President Donald Trump for befriending the leader of the North Korean “thug”, comparing his diplomacy to collaboration with Hitler.
In a brutal clash during their last presidential debate, Biden attacked Trump’s insistence that he avoided war through his summits with Kim Jong Un.
“He spoke about his good buddy, who is a thug,” Biden said of the young North Korean leader.
“It’s like saying we had a good relationship with Hitler before he invited Europe – the rest of Europe. Come on.”
But Biden said he was also willing to meet with Kim, saying his condition would be for Pyongyang to work to make the Korean Peninsula “a nuclear free zone.”
Trump said former President Barack Obama left him “a mess” on North Korea and warned him of the risk of “nuclear war.”
After the summits, “we have a very good relationship. And there is no war,” said Trump, who also downplayed North Korea’s recent unveiling of a massive new long-range missile during the summit. ‘a military parade.
“He didn’t like Obama,” Trump said of Kim not meeting the former president. “He didn’t like her. He didn’t want to do it.”
Biden, who was Obama’s vice president, countered that Obama would not meet with Kim because he was pushing for stronger sanctions.

Trump first met in June 2018 with Kim in Singapore, the first ever summit between countries still technically at war, and later said the two leaders “had fallen in love.”
The two leaders have met twice more and North Korea has since delayed nuclear and missile tests, but analysts say Pyongyang has continued to advance its weapons programs.
