Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana tested negative for COVID-19 on Saturday, an official statement said.

Earlier today, health workers had taken samples from Mr. Soren and his wife, as well as some officials working in the Office of the Chief Minister (CMO).

The Chief Minister has been under home quarantine since July 8 after being in contact with the Minister of Food and Sanitation Mithilesh Thakur and JMM MP Mathura Mahato, who were found infected with COVID-19.

Health workers took samples from the chief minister, his wife Kalpana Soren, press adviser Abhishek Prasad, senior personal secretary Sunil Srivastav and other officials and police officers working at the CMO, the statement said.

All samples from the swab of the chief minister, his wife and other officials have tested negative for COVID-19, the CMO said in the statement.

Mr. Thakur and Mr. Mahato are admitted to the COVID-19 service of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
