The Gurjars demand quotas in government jobs and educational institutions.

Jaipur:

Groups from Jat and Muslim communities in Rajasthan have renewed their demand for reservations, amid continued unrest in the state by the Gurjars for quotas in government jobs and educational institutions.

The protest by members of the Gurjar community, who blocked the Delhi-Mumbai railway line at Pilupura and the Hindaun-Bayana road, entered its tenth day on Tuesday after talks between its leaders and the government of Rajasthan were inconclusive Monday.

Jat community leaders from Bharatpur and Dholpur districts decided to organize “mahapanchayats” at different locations to discuss how to get reservations at government jobs and educational institutions.

The first of these meetings will be held in Pathena village, Bharatpur district, on November 18.

“We will organize ‘mahapanchayats’ in different places from November 18th and make a decision. If the government wants to hear us through the unrest, then we will do a ‘chakka jam’ after a decision taken in the ‘mahapanchayats.’ , Said the head of Jat Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti, Nem Singh Faujdar.

The state government should recommend that the Center give the Jats from those two districts the reservation in the central OBC list, he said, adding that Jats from other districts in the state already had a quota.

The Jats of Bharatpur and Dholpur districts were excluded from the central OBC list (other backward classes) after a decision of the Supreme Court in March 2015, then from the state OBC list following a decision of the High Court of Rajasthan in August of the same year.

In 2017, the government led by Vasundhara Raje extended the reserve to the Jats of these two districts under the state’s OBC list, but they have not yet been included in the central list.

The Muslim Minority Development Committee (MMDC), which wrote to Rajasthani Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on the issue of reservations, demanded a 10 percent quota for backward Muslim castes.

“Muslim CBOs fare worse than other CBOs in education and social backwardness. A separate reserve for Muslim CBOs in education and services should be given in the state modeled on the Karnataka, ”MMDC Secretary General Yunus Ali Khan said.

The Delhi-Mumbai rail route on the Pilupura and Hindaun-Bayana route from Bayana was blocked by members of Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti on reservation for the community.

The organization calls on the government of Rajasthan to include the Gurjar reserve in the ninth annex of the constitution, fill the backlog of vacancies and grant the benefit of a 5% reservation to the most backward classes ( MBC) in the ongoing recruitment process.
