Mumbai:
“Unreal, incredible and totally surprising” is how Jaideep Ahlawat describes life after his broadcast in small groups Paatal lok. The actor hopes the Amazon Prime Video series will open up more avenues for him to break stereotypes with difficult roles.
Written and created by Sudip Sharma, Paatal lok presents Jaideep as a washed-out inspector Hathiram Chaudhary who picks up the case of a lifetime when four suspects are captured in the attempt to assassinate a journalist during prime time.
“Sometimes I am overwhelmed by compliments, but happiness radiates. I hope this will show me in a new light. I hope many people think that I can also make vulnerable and not macho parts, antagonistic parts in which they saw me, “Jaideep told PTI.
The actor said that a popular director had told him that under all layers, Hathiram was essentially a romantic guy and wondered why someone hadn’t seen Jaideep in romantic roles.
“I told him ‘write, I’ll do it!’ I hope people see a lot of new characters in me. I’m ready to work hard, do comedy, romance and action. Just give me that confidence. I’m just too hungry for it. this moment. “
Jaideep first stood out in Anurag Kashyap’s 2012 police drama Gangs Of Wasseypur. Although he continued to appear in major films, including that of Shah Rukh Khan Raees, Akshay Kumar Gabbar is back and Kamal Haasan-starrer Vishwaroopam, he got a new cheer just six years later with Raazi.
The actor said he did not feel bogged down that this success of such magnitude “blessed” him only recently.
“They say, you get nothing before time and more than fate. I truly believe it and I never felt the need to fight it, to say ‘Why it didn’t happen sooner’. It is happening now and I feel good. “
“The work has reached far and wide. The belief that you now see in people’s eyes is a reminder that what you have worked hard for has been accomplished. Now a new journey will begin.”
Jaideep said that all of the actors – from Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui to Pankaj Tripathi – have gone through the wrestling phase, making roles and films in hopes of noticing them.
“We are all going through the phase where work is slow and we don’t know if what we do will have a return in the future or if it will reach people at all. You can’t fight that. All my work, where that you are it has always been appreciated by all the important people who saw it. Fortunately, no one said that I had done a terrible job. “
It is Jaideep’s inherent desire to win that finds resonance even in his Paatal lok character.
“Hathiram has had so much love because it is a story of each person who feels lost in some form of system. Whether in any field, journalism, business, it’s just the uniform that is different. The feeling of helplessness remains the same … The same goes for industry. “
“But you cannot be bitter about it. Change will only happen when you become positive. Hathiram has reached a stage where he will die but will give all he can. Everyone feels it at some point and so people were able to bond with him, “added Jaideep.
The 42-year-old actor said that the best part of the impact of Paatal lok was that the audience comes back now and discovers their past work, including their cameo in movies like Imtiaz Ali Rock star.
“It feels really good. To see that even these works, which you considered good but which may never have reached them, are noticed. I had done Rock star while i was doing Wasseypur. I really wanted to work with Imtiaz. They were looking for someone from Haryana for this part and I was told it was a flashing part.
“But I told him (Ali) that I would do anything because he is such a good director. I worked for three to four days and it’s amazing that people say” oh he was there too ! “This is the journey of an actor,” he added.
