New Delhi:
It’s been about three weeks since Paatal lok has exploded in our cultural consciousness and there is certainly nothing earthly about the impact that the Series produced by Anushka Sharma had. Paatal lok soared and far from the hellish frame of its title, making stars from its main cast along the way. Jaideep Ahlawat, who embodies the weary inspector of the world but also of the world, Hathiram Chaudhary, and Abhishek Banerjee, the taciturn and dog-loving killer Vishal “Hathoda” Tyagi, spoke to GalacticGaming about two of his main actors. Praise for Mr. Ahlawat’s tour as the sidelined police officer handed over the turkey of a case from the upper districts – real police. Jaideep Ahlawat says he has received messages from police officers across the country and a senior officer said “he feels it is the first time they have shown a human being rather than a uniform”.
If Inspector Hathiram has become a household name, so too has Hathoda Tyagi. Abhishek Banerjee always knew it was going to be a challenge. “I always wanted people to fall in love with Hathoda Tyagi in the end and I knew it was a difficult task because I did not have scenes in which I could actually say anything where you would achieve what kind of emotions this guy is going through, “Banerjee told GalacticGaming. Despite being a hit man with a bounty on his head, Hathoda Tyagi “is a compassionate guy, he is rejected by society but he has compassion and sympathy,” said Abhishek Banerjee.
The two actors declared themselves overwhelmed by love and admiration Paatal lok was welcomed.
“The only option we have as actors is to be thankful,” said Abhishek Banerjee. They also hope that a new world of possibilities and opportunities will open up.
Asked about the detailed research that has so clearly been done on Paatal Lok, Jaideep Ahlawat and Abhishek Banerjee said the credit belonged to the editorial team led by Sudip Sharma. “The script was my Bible,” said Mr. Ahlawat, explaining that he didn’t need to meet real police to play one – the script provided the nuance he needed. “We used to call Sudip sir Masterji on set,” said Abhishek Banerjee.
Watch:
Paatal lok, a police procedure based metaphorically on the concept of paradise and hell, directly opposes Inspector Hathiram and Hathoda Tyagi. The dramatis personae also includes Neeraj Kabi as a journalist and less tasty anchor who is the target of Hathoda’s next coup, Swastika Mukherjee as his fragile and dog-loving wife, and Gul Panag as Hathiram’s wife. Directed by Prosit Roy and Avinash Arun, Paatal lok is produced by Clean Slate Filmz, co-directed by Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh.
