Reliance Industries’ 43rd Annual General Meeting had a number of key announcements and some high-profile attendees. The billionaire Mukesh Ambani announced a multitude of offers, including an investment of Rs 33,737 crore in his arm of digital services, Jio Platforms, by Google of Alphabet Inc. Among other announcements, the company presented a new solution of mixed reality called Jio Glass – whose demo was presented by Isha and Akash Ambani.
The company has not released pricing and product availability details. However, they presented a very innovative demo on how the Jio glass will work when it is made available to the public.
“Hello Jio, please call Akash and Isha,” said company president Kiran Thomas, after which Jio Glass called the siblings. Akash Ambani appeared in a 3D avatar while Isha Ambani joined using a 2D video call interface. During the call, they demonstrated how Jio Glass would make meetings easy and interactive, and even engage in conversation.
With Jio Glass, you can exchange notes and digital presentations, added Kiran Thomas.
Jio Glass is designed for teachers and students to activate 3D virtual rooms and deliver holographic lessons via the Jio Mixed Reality service in real time. Jio Glass will also contribute to the virtual meetings.
“Jio Glass allows teachers and students to meet in 3D virtual rooms and deliver holographic lessons through our Jio Mixed Reality cloud in real time. With Jio Glass, the traditional way of learning geography will now be ‘story,’ said Mr Thomas.
We don’t know much about the specifications of the product, except that it will weigh 75 grams and will have to be connected to a smartphone with a cable to power it. The company has announced that it will come with 25 built-in applications to enable augmented reality video meetings and more.
The AGM also had an appearance from Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, who in a video talked about the recent partnership with Jio. Reliance has partnered with Google for its Jio products – the two companies will collaborate to develop Jio Glass.
Google and Jio will partner to build and operating system capable of building an entry-level 4G or 5G phone – aimed at helping 350 million Indians who still use a phone switch 2G for 4G phones. Mukesh Ambani said the goal was a “2G-mukt“(2G-free) India.
