An international snake venom racket erupted in West Bengal’s Malda district on Friday, and two people were arrested in a major operation by the state’s CID and local police, officials said. responsible.
CID detectives as well as officers from the Bamongola police station seized 600 grams of snake venom, estimated at around Rs 1 crore, from a car in the Pakuahat gas station area, they said.
Two pillars of an international racket were arrested during the raid, police said.
They have been identified as Alam Miyan (32) and Musfik Alam (29), both residents of Gangarampur area in Dakshin Dinajpur district, a senior officer said.
The snake venom was kept in a French-made bulletproof box, he added.
Police were told the duo were on their way to Malda to smuggle the venom and stopped the car midway and made the arrests, the officer said.
Malda district on the border between India and Bangladesh is notorious for smuggling.
