For the third day in a row, new daily coronavirus infections in the country have settled below the 50,000 mark, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry said the numbers were important in the context of some countries reporting up to a lakh of cases per day for the past 3-4 days.
Seventy-two percent of new infections reported in a 24-hour period are from 10 states and UTs, with Delhi continuing to report the highest number of new daily cases at 5,983, which is lower than its total of 7,745 new cases in the eve, the ministry said. .
There has been a sustained decrease in the number of active cases in the country in recent weeks, which has fallen to 5.05,265 and currently represents 5.88% of the total number of cases.
For the 38th day to date, recoveries have exceeded new daily cases with 42,033 patients recovering in 24 hours compared to 38,073 infections reported during the same period, the ministry said.
India registered less than 40,000 new cases per day after six days.
Total collections climbed to 79.59,406, bringing the national collection rate to 92.64%.
“The gap between recovered and active cases widened to 74,54,141,” the ministry said.
It is observed that 78% of new cases recovered are concentrated in 10 states and UTs.
Delhi reported the maximum number of recoveries in a single day with 7,014 newly recovered cases. A total of 5,983 people have recovered in Kerala, followed by 4,396 in West Bengal.
Seventy-two percent of new cases come from 10 states and UT – Delhi, West Bengal, Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
“Delhi continues to report the highest daily new cases: 5,983, which is less than its total of 7,745 new cases from the previous day. Delhi is followed by West Bengal with 3,907 new cases,” the ministry said. .
Kerala’s daily case declined to 3,593 while Maharashtra’s new cases declined to 3,277 cases, although they rank third and fourth in daily new case reporting.
A total of 448 cases of death were reported within 24 hours.
The number of deaths continued to decline with fewer than 500 deaths reported on the second day.
Ten states and UTs are responsible for nearly 78% of deaths. Although Maharashtra recorded the most casualties (85), its contribution to daily deaths fell to 18.97%, the ministry said.
Delhi and West Bengal follow with 71 and 56 daily deaths, respectively.
The number of COVID-19 cases in India rose to 85.91,730 with 38,073 infections reported in one day, while the death toll climbed to 1,27,059 with 448 new deaths, according to data updated at 8 in the morning.
