India’s COVID-19 count reaches 13.36861 with 48,916 fresh cases

There are currently 4,565,071 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

India’s COVID-19 counter crossed 13 lakh on Saturday, just two days after crossing the 12 lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry.

With 48,916 new cases, the number of coronavirus infections in the country rose to 13,36,861, while the number of deaths rose to 31,358 with 757 more people succumbing to the disease in the past 24 hours, a- he declared.

There are currently 4,565,071 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 tests hit a record high of 4.20 lakh samples in one day, the highest on record, the Union Health Ministry said, attributing the increase in the number labs to this feat.

India only had one lab to test samples for the disease in January, but it has now increased the number to 1,301, including private labs. The Department of Health said the revised ICMR guidelines and comprehensive state efforts have also contributed to widespread testing.

COVID-19: Uttarakhand reports 224 new cases
Uttrakhand reported 224 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 5,962.

According to the Uttrakhand Health Department, the state has 2,365 active cases, with 3,495 recoveries and 38 migrations. So far, 63 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 in the state.

The state health department also informed that the doubling rate of the viral infection, reported in the past seven days, is 20.81 days. The recovery percentage for patients with COVID-19 in the state is 58.63%.

North Korea locks down city for first suspected COVID-19 case: reports
North Korean authorities have imposed a lockdown on the border town of Kaesong after discovering what they called the country’s first suspected case of the novel coronavirus, state media reported on Sunday.

Chief Kim Jong Un called an emergency political bureau meeting on Saturday to implement a “maximum emergency system and issue a first-rate alert” to contain the virus, the official KCNA news agency said.

If confirmed, it would be the first officially recognized COVID-19 case in the North where the medical infrastructure is considered woefully inadequate to cope with an outbreak.

COVID-19 death toll in Assam stands at 77; the count crosses the 31,000 mark
A 65-year-old man died from COVID-19 in Assam on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 77, while the state’s death toll crossed the 31,000 mark after 1,165 new cases were reported, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases reached 31,086 from 29,921 on Friday. Of the new cases, 353 are from Guwahati and 100 from Golaghat.

The man, who was from Nagaon, died at Gauhati Medical College (GMCH) hospital, the minister said.

“Very sad to share that another # COVID19 patient, from Nagaon, succumbed to his infection today. He was admitted to GMCH. I am extremely sorry for this loss to the family. Condolences,” Mr. Sarma.

The minister advised people to strictly follow the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Coronavirus News: Maharashtra Adds 9,251 COVID-19 Cases
Maharashtra reported 9,251 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the cumulative tally in the state to 3.66,368 while deaths increased by 257, including 116 in the Mumbai metropolitan area (MMR), to 13,389, a said the state health department.

A record 7,227 patients were released during the day, bringing the number of cases recovered to 2.07,194.

Maharashtra now has 1,45,785 active cases.

A total of 18,36,920 people have been tested for COVID-19 so far, the department said.
