London:
An 11-year-old girl of Indian origin made a man very happy after finding his lost wedding ring on a UK beach, then found it with the help of her mother to return it to her.
Priya Sahu discovered the golden wedding ring in the sands of Ventnor Beach on the Isle of Wight on the south coast of England last month, a day after Matt Eastley lost it during his visit to the beach .
He told the BBC he had ‘splashed’ in the sea before realizing the ring had slipped off his finger and feeling like he had lost it forever. He compared his return to Cinderella recovering her glass slipper in the famous fairy tale.
“We thought someone must be devastated to lose their wedding ring and Priya said it would be magic if we could actually find that person,” said Aswita, Priya’s mother.
Before leaving the Isle of Wight, Eastley had asked a beach cafe owner to keep an eye on his wedding ring, with very little hope of ever finding one. He planned to eventually replace the ring, symbolic of his marriage to his wife Lisa 15 years ago.
Once Priya found the ring, she and her mother embarked on a mission to find who it belonged to and, thanks to friends and friends of friends, they were able to connect with the owner of the cafe who gave them then put in contact with Eastley.
They all met in a park in the port city of Southampton on Sunday, when Eastley was able to put his lost ring back on his finger.
“[Losing the ring] was devastating. It’s irreplaceable – it’s the only word I can think of, “the resident of Kent in the south-east of England told” BBC South East “.
“But it’s been wonderful. It’s a life affirmation. It’s a really happy ending. 2020 has been a bit dark but [the find has] definitely put a smile on my face, ”he says.
