The rule prohibits international students from staying in the United States if their universities do not conduct in-person courses

New Delhi:

India has raised concerns with the United States over a new immigration order that could force large numbers of Indian students to return home, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump released a new rule this week that would prevent international students from staying in the U.S. if their universities don’t host face-to-face courses in the next fall semester due to the coronavirus.

“We urged the American side to keep in mind the role that educational exchanges and interpersonal relationships have played in the development of our relationships,” said the foreign ministry.
Spokesman Anurag Srivastava said at a press conference.
