Geneva:

The World Health Organization said on Thursday that the United States, Brazil and India, all of which are suffering from a rapid increase in coronavirus cases, can still bring the pandemic under control.

They are “powerful, capable and democratic countries with enormous internal capacities to deal with this disease,” Dr Mike Ryan, WHO’s program manager for emergencies, said at a briefing in Geneva.

Coronavirus cases in the United States topped 4 million on Thursday, with more than 2,600 new cases recorded every hour on average, the highest rate in the world, according to a Reuters tally.
