Coronavirus: India recorded highest single-day recoveries of 57,584 in past 24 hours

Coronavirus live updates: India set another record by performing nearly nine lakh COVID-19 tests in a single day, which is the highest to date. 899,864 tests were performed in a single day. With that, the cumulative tests reached 3,09,41,264, read an official statement.

Even with such a high level of testing, positivity remained low at 8.81% compared to the national weekly average of 8.84%.

India also recorded the highest single-day recovery rates with 57,584 in the past 24 hours. This figure is higher than the confirmed cases added during the same period (55,079).

With 55,079 new cases, the number of COVID-19 cases in India has risen to over 27.02 lakh cases, while the number of deaths from the highly contagious disease has reached 51,797 with 876 new deaths, according to the government data.

So far, up to 1,043 prisoners and 302 prison staff have tested positive for the coronavirus in prisons in Maharashtra, according to the state prison department. But more than 800 of them have recovered and 18 prisons are now free from COVID-19 cases, including the narrow Arthur Road prison, one of the most overcrowded prisons in the country. For Covid patients, testing negative, not clean health check, doctors say
Interior Minister Amit Shah, who tested negative for the coronavirus last week, was admitted to AIIMS last night. After being released from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Mr. Shah was seen participating in Independence Day celebrations and hoisting the national flag at his official residence. But the hospital, in its statement, said it “had been complaining of fatigue and aches for three or four days.”
