New Delhi:

India expressed concern at reports of the resumption of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh region on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which took place in the early hours of September 27 and reaffirmed the the need for the parties to immediately cease hostilities, to exercise restraint and possible measures to maintain peace at the border.

India also expressed support for the continued efforts of the OSCE Group in Minsk for a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“We have witnessed the resumption of hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region since the early hours of September 27, causing casualties on both sides. India is concerned about this situation which threatens the regional peace and security, ”the Foreign Ministry said. in a statement Thursday.

He said India believes that any lasting resolution to the conflict can only be achieved peacefully through diplomatic negotiations.

“We reaffirm the need for the parties to immediately cease hostilities, to maintain restraint and to take all possible measures to maintain peace on the border. In this regard, we support the continued efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group for a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Armenia. and Azerbaijan, ”the statement said.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have straddled the mountainous region of Nagorno-Karabakh since 1988. Peace talks have been taking place since 1994, when a ceasefire was reached, but there were occasion of minor clashes along the borders.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called on the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders to take immediate steps to establish a ceasefire.
