The Supreme Court on Monday asked for a response from the income tax department to requests from Congressman Karti Chidambaram and his wife challenging the transfer of a tax evasion case filed against them to a lower tribunal than a tribunal special for MPs and MPs.
A bench of judges Ashok Bhushan and R Subhash Reddy notified the IT department of an appeal by Karti Chidambaram, son of Congress leader P Chidambaram, against the judgment of the Madras High Court.
The High Court had dismissed petitions filed by Karti Chidambaram and his wife to quash two criminal complaints under the Income Tax Act and the proceedings before the Special Court for Members of Parliament / Members of Parliament.
