Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth today jointly inaugurated the new building of the Supreme Court of Mauritius in Port Louis.
Addressing the virtual event, the Prime Minister said that “history has taught us that in the name of development partnerships, nations have been forced into partnerships of dependency”.
It gave rise to a colonial and imperial regime. This has also given rise to global power supplies, Prime Minister Modi said.
The prime minister’s remarks come as more and more reports point to China’s “global debt diplomacy” to leverage deals in its favor by putting pressure on other countries facing debts. she cannot reimburse.
“For India, the most fundamental principle of development cooperation is respect for our partners,” he said.
“This sharing of the lessons of development is our only motivation. This is why our development cooperation is not accompanied by any conditions,” said Prime Minister Modi.
The new Supreme Court building in Port Louis is a symbol of India-Mauritius cooperation and shared values, the Prime Minister said in his speech.
