Car washed away crossing overflowing stream in Andhra Pradesh

A car with two men was swept away in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh as it crossed an overflowing stream after heavy rains in the area. According to reports, local people were able to save the two – both in their 30s.

In the video, you can see the driver of the car trying to cross a flooded stretch very carefully, but after a while it appears that the driver cannot maneuver it due to the strong current. The vehicle was swept away by rapid floodwaters about 100 meters downstream, according to reports.

Locals waded through the neck deep water and managed to reach the car and get the two men out.

The two men, who have not yet been identified, were traveling from Kadapa to Bijapur in Karnataka.

Most of the water bodies in the overflow due to monsoon rains and this particular stretch, on the NH67, is apparently inundated quickly due to an incomplete culvert, according to reports.

Andhra Pradesh is expected to experience moderate rainfall with intermittent episodes of intense downpours, the meteorological office said. Heavy rains are also likely on the coasts of Odisha, Telangana, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Konkan and Goa, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
