IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore and IIT Delhi took the top three places among educational institutions in the country as part of the National Institutional Ranking (NIRF) of the Ministry of Human Resources announced Thursday.
The top 10 higher education institutions in the country included seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
According to the annual ranking, the three best universities are IISc Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Banaras Hindu University.
IIM Ahmedabad was ranked as the best B school in the country, followed by IIM Bangalore and Calcutta.
Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “ Nishank ” announced that Miranda College ranks first among colleges, followed by Lady Sri Ram College for Women, Hindu College and St Stephen’s College.
According to the ranking, the top three engineering schools in the country are IIT Madras, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay.
In the pharmacy category, the best institute is Jamia Hamdard in Delhi, followed by Panjab University, Chandigarh. The National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research, Mohali, ranked third.
In the medical school category, AIIMS Delhi took first place, followed by PGI, Chandigarh and CMC, Vellore.
The annual ranking is generally announced in April but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These rankings serve as a guide for students in the selection of universities based on a set of criteria and help universities to improve their performance on various ranking parameters and to identify research gaps and areas for improvement. This exercise has also created the habit of organizing data by institutions and above all these institutions are trying to become more competitive, “said Mr. Nishank.
The classification framework assesses institutions according to five broad generic groups of parameters – Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Results of Graduation (GO), Awareness and Inclusion (OI) and Perception (PR). The rankings are assigned based on the total sum of the scores assigned for each of these five major groups of parameters.
The country’s dental colleges have been classified for the first time by the NIRF. The Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Science, the Manipal College of Dental Sciences and DY Patil Vidyapeeth were ranked among the top three dental colleges.
A total of 3,771 universities and higher education institutions across the country participated in the ranking process.
