New Delhi:
On its 88th birthday on Thursday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) set a new record for the highest parachute landing at Khardungla Pass, Leh at an altitude of 17,982 feet, breaking its own previous record .
A Defense Ministry statement said on Friday that Wing Commander Gajanad Yadava and Warrant Officer AK Tiwari successfully parachuted from a C-130J aircraft and landed at Khardungla Pass, Leh, on 8 October 2020.
“Landing at such an altitude is extremely difficult due to the low oxygen levels combined with low air density and rough and inhospitable terrain. Both Air Warriors demonstrated excellent professionalism, courage and determination to overcome adverse conditions and achieve great success in setting a new IAF record, ”the statement said.
