Washington:
US President Donald Trump has said he is “drug-free” and revealed more details about his fight with Covid-19 in a TV interview broadcast on Friday, a week after his hospitalization with the virus.
The president appeared on Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight for what the White House described as an on-air “medical assessment” conducted remotely by Fox contributing physician Marc Siegel.
“Right now I’m out of meds, haven’t been on any meds since, you know, probably eight hours ago,” Trump told Siegel.
It is not known when the interview, which Carlson said was filmed by a White House film crew, was recorded.
Trump’s medics previously said they gave him an aggressive cocktail of therapeutic drugs, including the steroid dexamethasone, which is usually associated with severe cases of COVID-19.
Trump also said he was tested for the virus again.
“I’ve been retested and haven’t even found any numbers or anything yet, but I’ve been retested, and I know I’m either at the bottom of the scale or free,” a- he declared.
He said he didn’t know when his next test would be, adding that it was “probably tomorrow … they test every other day”.
Trump said the virus had sapped his energy levels, adding he “didn’t feel very vital.”
He also said he “didn’t have a breathing problem”. His doctors said he had been put on supplemental oxygen at least twice, and the president later said lung tests showed “some congestion in there”.
Trump said he did not know where he contracted the virus, adding: “It’s very contagious. It’s something you are learning, it’s a contagious disease.”
