LONDON (Reuters):
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he wanted a visit to the pub and urged people to go out and enjoy their new freedom to socialize next month, but warned that they should still act responsibly.
Johnson said on Tuesday that pubs, restaurants and hotels could reopen in England from July 4, which would help shutdown the coronavirus which has virtually shut down the economy since mid-March.
“Frankly, I can’t wait to go to a pub or a restaurant, even though it may not be entirely compatible with the new diet that I am,” said Johnson at a press conference.
“I think people have to go out and I think they need to have fun and rediscover things they haven’t been able to do for a long time.”
Government to soften social distancing rules so drinkers have to stay three feet away from two – something pubs and the hotel industry have lobbied to attract more customers on their doorstep.
Pub visitors will be asked to provide their contact information, although specific guidelines have yet to be released.
Johnson also said that cutting her blonde hair shock was one of his priorities, and said the government is working to find a way to allow other higher-risk activities, such as gambling to cricket and visit the theater, to resume.
“I want to see the commotion, I want to see the activity, but let’s be absolutely clear that I also want everyone to pay attention: stay alert and follow the instructions,” said Johnson.
“We can’t have, you know, great scenes of contortion in the beer gardens where the virus could be transmitted.”
