Los Angeles:
A Hollywood producer and talent manager has been charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and the abduction of four women in California, prosecutors announced on Monday.
David Guillod, executive producer of “Atomic Blonde” and “Extraction”, is the last Hollywood tycoon to be swept away in the #MeToo movement, which led to the 23-year sentence of Harvey Weinstein’s prison for rape and sexual assault in March .
Guillod went to the police on Monday morning in Santa Barbara, near Los Angeles, accompanied by his lawyer.
He faces a total of 11 criminal charges for the incidents dating back to 2012 and a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison for life, said prosecutors in Santa Barbara.
Guillod, 53, denies all charges, said his lawyer.
“Mr. Guillod has been vilified for eight years without having had the opportunity to question his accusers under oath,” said Philip Cohen in a statement to AFP.
“Justice is rarely quick and often does not come easily; but Mr. Guillod is impatient to be able to delete his name in the appropriate forum.”
Prosecutors in Santa Barbara did not name the accusers on the indictment.
Guillod was publicly charged with sexual assault by “Ted” actress Jessica Barth, who said the producer drugged her at a meeting in 2012.
The case was investigated by the Los Angeles police, but was closed two years later.
Barth released this allegation in 2017, following the #MeToo movement, and after another actress contacted her with a similar account.
Guillod left his post as managing director of Primal Wave Entertainment shortly after.
On Monday, he was charged with incidents involving three anonymous women in Santa Barbara and one in Los Angeles in 2012 who will be prosecuted in Santa Barbara.
An alleged kidnapping and rape in Santa Barbara took place in December 2014 during a retreat to a wine country, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Guillod was also charged with the rape of two unconscious and intoxicated women over a 48-hour period in January 2015.
Cohen, the lawyer, said that Guillod had cooperated with law enforcement, and evidence, including email and text messages, “tells a very different story from the one alleged.”
“We find the unification of the files filed with the Santa Barbara DA office suspicious,” he added.
Leading talent manager, Guillod’s executive produced Charlize Theron’s “Atomic Blonde” in 2017, and this year’s Netflix thriller “Extraction” with Chris Hemsworth.
He remained in police custody Monday afternoon with a bail of $ 3 million, said the lawyer’s office.
The date for his indictment has not yet been set.
