With continued rainfall throughout the night, residents of several parts of Mumbai woke up to severe water saturation on Tuesday. The weather service has issued a red alert for today and tomorrow for extremely heavy rains in Mumbai. With a high tide expected at 12:47 p.m., the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an alert to all relevant departments and also to citizens not to approach any beaches or low areas. Tidal waves of around 4.51 meters were forecast due to the heavy rains. Education officials have been urged to prepare BMC schools for emergencies and if people need shelter. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said extremely heavy rains would occur in isolated areas in the Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts of Maharashtra on August 4 and 5. Ratnagiri district is also expected to receive very heavy rains on August 4, while Paldhar district is expected to receive extremely heavy rains on August 5.
