New Delhi:
Heavy rain hit Mumbai and its surrounding areas today, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced. Widespread precipitation is also expected over the next two days on the Konkan, Goa and Gujarat coast, according to the weather office.
The Santacruz weather station in Mumbai has recorded 191 mm of rain in the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 am today, while Colaba recorded 156 mm in the same period. Other places in Maharashtra such as Ratnagiri, Nanded and Osmanabad in the Marathwada region also received heavy rains.

Apart from Maharashtra, several regions of Rajasthan also experienced heavy rainfall. Accumulations of water have been reported in Dholpur and surrounding areas.

Forest officials say more than 80% of Kaziranga National Park has been flooded and four rhinos have died in the past two days. To date, more than 75 animals in the national park have died.
