The medical director of the AIIMS Trauma Center in Delhi has been dismissed following the death of a COVID-19 positive journalist who allegedly jumped from the fourth floor on Monday, the Minister of Union Health, Harsh Vardhan. He said a committee of experts will be formed to suggest changes in the administration of the country’s first hospital.

“The 4-member commission of inquiry, established to examine the suicide of Shri Tarun Sisodiya, presented its report today. The commission found no intention of malafide in the death of Mr. Sisodiya. also found no breach of Covid-19’s treatment protocol, “he tweeted.

“Ordered the immediate replacement of the medical superintendent of the AIIMS Trauma Center #JPNATC. On July 6, a COVID-19 positive journalist, Shri Tarun Sisodiya, jumped from the 4th floor and died,” he added.

Sisodiya, who worked for a major Hindi newspaper, jumped from the fourth floor of the trauma center and was transferred to intensive care, police said on Monday.

Doctors at the trauma center, which has been converted to a facility dedicated to COVID-19, tried to revive him but he died of his injuries, hospital officials said.

The journalist was admitted to AIIMS on June 24 and is recovering considerably, the hospital said in a statement.

“Family members have been regularly informed of his condition. At approximately 1:55 pm today, he ran out of TC-1 where he was admitted. Medics ran after him and attempted to arrest him. and jumped, “the hospital said in a statement.

The journalist lived in Bhajanpura in Delhi with his wife and two daughters.

The Minister of the Union had ordered a high-level inquiry into his death.
