The head of a man whose torso was found on the train tracks near Betul in Madhya Pradesh about two weeks ago was later found nearly 1,300 km away in Bangalore as it had become entangled in the engine of the Rajdhani express train, a police official said. Friday.
The body of the man, whose head and other parts were missing, was found on October 3 on the Machna Bridge near Betul by government railway police (GRP), he said.
“During the investigation, it emerged that the man had been run over by the New Delhi-Bengaluru Rajdhani express train, as a result of which an alert was raised,” GRP Betul chief gendarme said, Vedprakash.
Police recovered body parts from the tracks, which were preserved after the autopsy, he said.
“Bangalore Railways personnel recovered the head on October 4. Police circulated their photo there to verify the victim’s identity. They eventually focused on Betul after learning that the headless body of the victim was found. ‘a man had been found there “. he said.
“About four days ago Betul GRP was informed of the recovery of a man’s head found entangled in the engine of the Rajdhani express train. It was discovered to be that of Ravi Markam (28), a resident of Betul, as his family members identified him, ”Vedprakash said.
A Bengaluru police team arrived in Betul to investigate the case, he said.
“As the family members of the deceased were unable to make it to Bengaluru for financial reasons, the police only buried his head there,” he said, adding that the remaining dismembered body parts had been given to the family for the last rites.
Police said it was not yet clear whether the man had committed suicide or died in a crash on the rails.
According to Vedprakash, the investigation of the incident is ongoing and a case is being registered.
