With the increase in online fraud cases in the state, Haryana police have deactivated 392 mobile SIM cards issued on false and forged documents in the last month between May 12 and June 15, 2020.

While sharing the details, the additional director general of police (public order) Navdeep Singh Virk informed that the Cyber ​​Crime unit, after a thorough investigation during this period, had identified a total of 685 mobile SIM cards allegedly forged and falsified. documents from cellular service providers.

Mobile numbers were deactivated by cellular service providers after the Telecommunications Department was approached for the same. The ministry found that all of these fraudsters often carry out their illegal activities by obtaining SIM cards on false IDs to evade arrest.

Highlighting certain precautionary measures, Virk said that cybercriminals are constantly looking for ways to make money at the expense of others. Keeping this in mind, it is advisable not to share personal information such as bank account, CVV code, OTP or respond to suspicious links on WhatsApp or by email, as this could lead to the siphoning of funds from bank accounts, he said.

“We keep advising and warning people to be wary of unsolicited and fictitious offers received by phone, email and social media. At the same time, mobile service providers were also asked to check the documents SIM card applicants, correctly, he added. “

Warning citizens not to fall prey to cyber fraudsters, he also urged them to file a complaint against these fraudsters with the government cybercrime reporting portal or the office of the police superintendent or police station concerned.
